Evans's academic honours included:

  • Honorary Doctorate from Oxford University in 1877
  • Honorary Doctorate from Dublin University in 1878
  • Honorary Doctorate from Cambridge University in 1890
  • Honorary Fellow of Brasenose College in 1903
 

Other awards

He was elected Correspondante de L'Institut de France in 1887 and in 1892 he was created a KCB (Knight Commander of The Most Honourable Order of the Bath).

Awarded posthumously Prestwich Medal in 1909.
